Responsibilities of the City Manager

The City Manager is the chief administrative officer of the City and is appointed by the Mayor and the City Council.  Responsibilities of the City Manager include oversight of the day-to-day operations of the City, enforcement of City ordinances, recommendation of policy issues to the City Council and preparation of an annual budget for the council’s review and approval.

City Manager Denice Gerstenberg has more than 28 years of municipal experience. She began her career as City Manager in Algonac in September 2017 and previously worked for the City of Sterling Heights for 26 years.

Ms. Gerstenberg earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor/LS&A and a master’s degree in public health from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor/School of Public Health.
